Mission to Build Community
BECs
As Centers of
Evangelisation
The BEC is where
- we connect with the divine within our daily routine.
- we come to know with certainty that God exists and is involved in our one and only passionate life.
BEC's are different from groups for Bible Study or prayer
they are not a therapy group
not a group that sits there to feel good together.
to stroke each others psyche
They are places where people - share their faith.
- do service.
- develop a strong support network.
- provide spiritual energy for each other.
Everyone in the parish
- must become a resource for the other - to inspire
- to help all in their search (journey)
- must acknowledge that there is a connection between building community and growing in wellness
Pope John Paul II in 1988 taught that " small basic communities " where the faithful
communicate the Word of God
and express it in service and love to one another
are centres of evangelisation in communion with their pastor."
(adapted from the NewBec Bulletin in the Archdiocese based on an article by Msgr Thomas Morgan)
for us here in Cameron Highlands -
we are reminded of the two areas that we need to focus on,
what we came to realise at our gathering among leaders for the year end review in nov 2010.
ie the need
- for commitment as leaders ...... to what we have been entrusted with in our parish journey
to the ministry / roles of leadership that we have been mandated with.
- for communication amongst ourselves - about the decision / plans / actions we have agreed
for greater coordination and participation by all.
Over these last two years what I have come to realise,
from the experience and fruits of our journey of faith
is that we have to make HOSPITALITY the mark of our parish.
Hospitality towards - each other in participating in the celebration for the Eucharist especially on Sundays,
- the migrants in our midst
- the many visitors who come to the highlands for a break and make it to Chapel.
Last weekend - a group of volunteer helped clean the donations of clothes and foodstuff
This has made it easier for us in the future to find / collect and distribute the things.
during mid week we needed to send clothes to some migrants who have arrived in camerons
about a month ago. It was so easy to get this done......more then that it was a great effort in
making evangelisation effective. Thank you to all who helped out
On Saturday morning we innagurated our 1st computer class with Nico as our 1st student.
in the evening we had 2 students.
On Sunday afternoon there were 8 of them for the computer class.
On Sunday morning after Mass we had our 1st English Class for the 8 migrants.
I was their tutor. Staring with basic pronunciation of letters to get a sense of where each one is we moved to basic skills in introductions and communications. I will have to put in writing on what I observed so that we can have a proper, coordinated, concerted approach in this effort.
We will need to be available on Sundays after Mass to build this.
Isn't this an effort at Evangelisation through Human Development.
Isn't this the connecting with God, self and others that we are encouraged to this week.
As parishioners this effort is an opportunity for us to come forward and make a difference for the other and for self.
Now that we have been inspired with this by God's Grace, the Parish Integral Human Ministry is the arm that will embrace and nurse this.
We keep hearing Jesus say to each on of us ...................How Blessed are you ,when ......!!
May this Chinese New Year celebration and the week ahead hel us live this.
